The Manipal International University (MIU) is a full-fledged university established in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan by the Indian based, Manipal Global Education Services (MGES). The University offers a myriad of programme ranging from engineering, business, finance, and sciences. The development of the campus has been planned in a few stages.
In line with the corporate visions of the university, the campus has been designed with the sustainable approach, with the recognition by the Green Building Index (GBI) and the United States Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). This effort has been fruitful with the recognition of the MIU campus as the first green university campus in Southeast Asia.
At the client’s request of an eco-friendly and green design, the designers had adopted the underlying principle of a Malay traditional house which was the earlier tenet of sustainable design. By exploiting the similar principles, many green features have been implemented such as the green roof, photovoltaic system, self-shading building system and the internal cross ventilation.
Even though the initial design had been shifted to a low-rise linear building design with two adjacent wings; the green approaches have remained the same. The campus is now equipped with many facilities and amenities including administration office, classrooms, auditorium, library, various labs and workshops, sports centre and cafeteria, with the addition of a new upcoming hostel.
